References: Alderfer, "'David Kulp, His Hand and Pen, Beet it if you Can': The Bucks County Brown Leaf Artist Identified" in Amsler, Bucks County Fraktur, pp. 151-65, see also pp. 124-26, 270-74. Kulp's identity was discovered in 1994, when his copybook, dated 1806-22, was found among a lot of German-language books donated to the Mennonite Heritage Center in Harleysville, Pennsylvania. An uncle, cousin and nephew are also named David. Kulp studied under Lutheran schoolmaster and fraktur artist Johann Adam Eyer.
